Before Deciding To Become A Full-Time RVer
- Are you confident that you’ve done enough RVing and research to make this major life change? Becoming a full-timer is not only an adventure, it’s a significant change in lifestyle.
- Have you sought the help of some financial/legal pros as to what state you should call home? Tax considerations and other legal factors as well as your long and short term plans should be strongly considered.
- Have you matched your RV to this new lifestyle choice? Years spent in your RV feel and live way differently than it does for a weekend or even a month.
- Have you decided how long you plan to live where and when? If so, have you taken weather, holidays, family, medical care and other important concerns into consideration?
- Have you decided if all your time will be spent in campgrounds or is the plan to also boondock? Living off the grid will require you to prepare your rig and yourself to effectively and efficiently do so.
- Are you prepared to downsize and declutter? It’s clear you can’t take your entire house or apartment with you. You can rent a storage unit if necessary, recognizing those costs quickly add up.
- Can you get excited about learning the basics of your RV and continuing to learn as you travel? Understanding basic safety and maintenance needs are a must. The good news…none are overwhelming in today’s YouTube/AI world.
- Have you researched enough to plan an initial itinerary and budget? You don’t want to discover big surprises once you’ve hit the road for good.
- Speaking of money, have you decided if you’ll be working from your rig? Will you be able to work remotely? Are you aware of the many workcamper opportunities that exist at private campgrounds as well as at many national parks?
- On the topic of working from your RV, have you addressed WiFi and internet challenges? Those factors may influence where you are able to “park’ your RV for an extended period.
- Have you addressed things that are easy to overlook? Will your current RV insurance cover you as a full-timer? How will you get your mail? How will you gain access to TV and streaming services, in general? How will you…?
- Have you joined any groups or subscribed to podcasts or YouTube channels captained by experienced full-time RVers? Few things are more important than learning from others who “have been there and are doing that!
