Where do Summerville residents buy an RV?

Summerville does not have a full-line RV dealership inside town limits, so most buyers shop the Charleston area. Coastal RV Center in Ravenel is the closest family owned option at roughly 21 miles and 30 minutes by way of SC-165. The dealership sells new and used travel trailers, fifth wheels, truck campers and motorhomes, and arranges financing, trade-ins and service on the same visit.

Why Summerville Buyers Make the Drive

Good camping country, no dealership in town. Here is what customers from Dorchester County tell us matters.

Summerville sits in a good spot for RV ownership. You are twenty minutes from the Ashley River, an hour from Edisto Beach State Park, and inside an easy weekend of the mountains, the Outer Banks or the Florida line. What the town does not have is a dealer with a real lot, a parts counter and a service bay. That is the gap we fill.

Our lot sits on Highway 17 in Ravenel, twelve miles south of historic Charleston. Coming from Summerville you never touch the peninsula or the Mark Clark. SC-165 drops you through Hollywood and puts you at our front gate, which matters more than people expect when you are towing a new trailer home for the first time.

Size is the other reason people come here. The owners work the lot, the same technicians see your unit at delivery and at its first service appointment, and nobody hands you off to a finance office you have never met. The about page has the background on how the dealership has been run since day one.

What Summerville shoppers usually want

  • A half-ton towable they can pull with the truck already in the driveway
  • Enough bunk space for kids and a dog without going over 32 feet
  • Air conditioning that holds up through a Lowcountry July
  • A dealer close enough that a warranty visit is not a full day off work
  • Straight pricing with no add-ons appearing at signing

Read what customers say about how that works in practice.

New RVs for Sale Near Summerville

Our new inventory leans toward the lightweight and mid-size units that suit Lowcountry campgrounds and half-ton trucks. Stock moves quickly, so the new RV inventory page is always the accurate picture of what is on the lot today.

A few of these deserve a note for Summerville buyers. The R-Pod and the Flagstaff E-Pro are the two we point first-time owners toward, because a mid-size SUV or a half-ton handles them without a weight distribution argument. Micro Minnie and Micro Lite sit one step up and add a proper dry bath. If you are moving into a fifth wheel, the Durango and Ridgeway are where most of our Dorchester County customers land, and our guide on stepping up to a fifth wheel covers what changes when you do.

Used RVs, Inspected Before They Hit the Lot

Coastal RV Center built its reputation on pre-owned units, and we are selective about what we take in.

Every used RV has to come back clean on water intrusion, and we will not put a unit out front carrying pet or smoke odor. Roof seals, delamination, soft spots in the floor, appliance function and tires all get checked before a price goes on the window.

That matters more in this climate than it does in a dry state. Coastal humidity finds every failed seal, and a trailer that sat under oaks for three seasons can look fine in photos and still hide a wet front cap. When our service team finds something, it gets repaired or the unit does not get listed.

Inventory turns over constantly since much of it comes from local trades and consignment, so check the used RV inventory often. If you are weighing a private sale against a dealer purchase, our post on buying from a dealer instead of a private seller covers the differences on title work, warranty and recourse.

Travel Trailers

The largest part of our lot and the usual starting point. Ranges from 15 foot singles up to 32 foot bunkhouses, most towable with a half-ton.

Fifth Wheels

More living space, better weight distribution and residential layouts. Requires a truck with a bed hitch and the payload to match.

Browse fifth wheels

Class A Motorhomes

Full coaches, gas and diesel. Best for long trips and snowbird routes where you want to drive and live in the same vehicle.

Browse Class A

Class C Motorhomes

Cab-over coaches on a van or truck chassis. Easier to drive than a Class A, still sleeps a family, and parks at most state park sites.

Browse Class C

Class B Camper Vans

Van conversions for couples and solo travelers. Fits a normal parking space and doubles as a daily driver for a lot of owners.

Truck Campers

Slide-in units for people who already own the truck and want to keep towing capacity free for a boat or a trailer.

Choosing an RV That Works in the Lowcountry

Buying an RV in coastal South Carolina is not the same as buying one in Colorado. Three things drive most of the decisions we help Summerville customers make.

01

Start with your tow vehicle

The most common mistake is falling for a layout and working backward. Find the payload figure on your door jamb sticker, then subtract passengers, gear and tongue weight before you shop. A half-ton with a tow package handles most trailers under about 7,000 pounds dry, but hitch weight usually runs out first. Our towing guide has the manufacturer numbers, and our staff will run the math against the actual unit.

02

Plan for heat and humidity

A July afternoon in Dorchester County will test an undersized air conditioner. If you camp locally in summer, look for a unit prewired for a second rooftop AC or one that already has it, and pay attention to insulation ratings rather than marketing names. Vent covers, a dehumidifier and a front window cover make a real difference in how the interior holds up between trips.

03

Check length before you book

Givhans Ferry, Colleton State Park and Edisto Beach all have site length limits, and the shaded waterfront loops tend to be the short ones. Something in the 25 to 30 foot range books far more easily along the coast than a 38 foot fifth wheel. If most of your camping is within two hours of home, that is worth more than an extra slide.

Written with the Coastal RV Center sales and service team. Our staff have walked customers through RV purchases across Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley counties for years, from first travel trailers to diesel coaches. Questions on a specific unit, a tow rating or a service issue go straight to the people who handle them. Reach us at (843) 564-1542 or through the contact page.

Financing, Trade-Ins and Service

Everything after the handshake happens in the same building, with the same people.

RV Financing

We work with lenders who write RV paper specifically, which usually means longer terms and better rates than a general consumer loan. Applying before you shop tells you what payment range is realistic and puts you in a stronger position when the right unit arrives.

Apply for credit

Trade-Ins

Trading your current RV toward the next one is straightforward here. Send details through the trade form and we appraise on real condition, not a formula. Because much of our used inventory comes from local trades, a well kept unit from Summerville is worth more to us than to a dealer three states away.

Get a trade value

Service and Parts

Warranty claims, roof and seal work, appliance repair, electrical diagnosis, aftermarket installs and pre-trip inspections. Travelers who break down on Highway 17 get worked in when we can manage it, which is how a fair number of our long-term customers first found us.

Schedule service

Owning an RV in this climate also means staying ahead of maintenance. Wash the roof, check seals twice a year and do not let a trailer sit uncovered through a full summer. Our posts on winterizing and seasonal maintenance cover the routine most owners should be on.

What Buying From Us Looks Like

Six steps from browsing online to pulling out of the lot with your RV behind you.

01

Shop online first

Filter the full inventory by type, price or condition and save two or three units. Most Summerville customers arrive with a short list already.

02

Call ahead before you drive

A quick call to (843) 564-1542 confirms the unit is still here and lets us have it open and powered when you arrive. Units sell fast, especially in spring.

03

Walk through it properly

Sit in it. See whether the bathroom door blocks the hallway and whether the bed is walk-around. These are the things people notice in month three, not on the lot.

04

Numbers and paperwork

Trade appraisal, financing terms and out-the-door price in one conversation. No prep fees appearing later that nobody mentioned.

05

Delivery walkthrough

A technician takes you through the systems, hooks it to your truck, checks lights and brake controller, and makes sure you can dump tanks and run the water heater before you leave.

06

Come back when you need us

Warranty work, upgrades and seasonal service happen in the same building with the same people. Thirty minutes from Summerville, not a day trip to Columbia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what Summerville buyers ask us most.

Is there an RV dealership in Summerville, SC?

Summerville does not have a full-line new and used RV dealership within town limits. The closest family owned dealership is Coastal RV Center at 6075 Savannah Hwy in Ravenel, roughly 21 miles and about 30 minutes away by SC-165. You get new and pre-owned sales, financing, trade appraisals and a service department in one place.

How far is Coastal RV Center from Summerville?

About 21 miles, or a 30 minute drive. Take SC-165 south through Hollywood and it brings you to Highway 17 at Ravenel. You avoid downtown Charleston entirely, which is worth knowing on the trip home when you are towing for the first time.

What RV brands does Coastal RV Center carry?

New inventory centers on Forest River lines including R-Pod, Flagstaff, Surveyor and Grand Surveyor, along with Winnebago Micro Minnie, Access and Thrive, Keystone Sprout, East to West Della Terra and K-Z Durango and Ridgeway. Used inventory varies and has included Tiffin, Newmar, Fleetwood, Coachmen, Dutchmen and CrossRoads. The inventory page shows what is on the lot now.

Can I finance an RV with less than perfect credit?

Often yes. RV lenders look at the whole picture, including down payment, time on the job and debt load, not the score alone. Term length and rate will reflect the risk. Submit the financing application and we will tell you honestly what is available rather than run your credit at five banks and hope.

Do I need a special license to tow a travel trailer in South Carolina?

For ordinary recreational use, a standard South Carolina driver license covers towing a travel trailer or fifth wheel and driving a motorhome. The state does not require a special non-commercial class for typical RV combinations the way a few other states do. What you do need is a tow vehicle rated for the load, a properly adjusted hitch and, in most cases, a working brake controller. Check current SCDMV guidance if your combination is unusually heavy.

Is it better to buy a new or used RV?

New makes sense if you want factory warranty, current floorplans and the exact configuration you asked for. Used makes sense if you want someone else to absorb the first years of depreciation and you are buying from a dealer who inspects units properly. First-time buyers frequently do better with a well inspected used trailer, learn what they actually use, and trade up in two or three years.

Will you take my current RV on trade?

Yes. Send photos and details through the trade-in page and we will appraise it on real condition. We also take consignment on units we cannot buy outright. Local trades are a big source of our used inventory, so a well maintained RV from the Summerville area usually appraises well here.

Do you service RVs you did not sell?

We do. The service department handles roof and seal work, appliance and electrical repair, warranty claims for the brands we carry, aftermarket installs and pre-trip inspections, whether or not the unit came from our lot. Travelers with a problem on Highway 17 get worked in when the schedule allows.

What size RV is best for South Carolina state parks?

Something in the 25 to 30 foot range gives you the widest choice of sites. Many of the shaded, waterfront loops at parks like Givhans Ferry, Colleton and Edisto Beach have length limits that rule out larger fifth wheels and Class A coaches. Check the specific park before you commit to a longer unit if local camping is your main use.

What are your hours?

Sales is open Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 5:00PM and Saturday 9:00AM to 4:00PM, closed Sunday. The service department runs Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 5:00PM and is closed weekends. Hours can shift around holidays and RV shows, so call (843) 564-1542 before driving over from Summerville and we will have your unit open and ready.

Ready to Come See Us?

Thirty minutes from Summerville, with owners on the lot and a service team that will still be here in five years. Browse the inventory online, then call ahead and we will have it open when you pull in.
